Kurt Lund - Tenor Sax
Whether he’s playing tenor, alto or soprano sax, flute or clarinet, Kurt Lund has been engaging audiences in the Toronto area since as early as 1980, when he moved to Toronto after studying at the Douglas College Music Program and the Berklee College of Music. In 2006, Kurt produced an album called “Kurt Lund Meets the Rhythm Section” (ask him about the title sometime), with the late Archie Alleyne, Bernie Senensky and Duncan Hopkins. He played lead alto in Ross Wooldridge’s “Tribute to Benny Goodman” Big Band, in the Tribute to Jim Galloway Big Band, featuring Mike Murley on soprano sax, and in a jazz quartet (including Paul Novotny, Ewan Farncombe and Jim Gelcer) at the Barrie Jazz Festival in 2022 playing the music of Paul Desmond. Kurt has performed in many of Toronto’s well-known jazz joints, including The Pilot, The Rex, The Montreal Bistro, Top o’ the Senator, Hirut Café, Reid’s Distillery and perhaps every hotel in town... He has appeared with numerous big bands including the Advocats Big Band, George Lake Big Band, Swing Shift Big Band, Bob Cary Orchestra and The Jazz Mechanics. Kurt brings warmth and creativity to every phrase he plays. Fifth Element is delighted to have him on tenor sax (and more).
